Viewing Information About Astringent and Toner

Astringent and toner are water-based skin care products that are used to remove dirt and residual makeup that is still attached after washing your face. Although similar, it turns out these two products have differences, you know! Many think that after washing your face, dirt or residual makeup on the face is completely gone. In fact, that is not necessarily the case. Although it has been cleaned, dirt can still stick to the skin, even though it is not visible. Therefore, you need to use astringent and toner to clean facial skin.

Difference between Astringent and Toner

Although the functions are the same, astrigent and toner have different ingredients. Astrigent is made from water and is generally formulated with alcohol which functions to remove excess oil on the facial skin. In addition, astringents usually also contain salicylic acid which aims to fight acne and blackheads. Thanks to these ingredients, astrigents are intended for combination, oily, and acne prone skin. While toner is made from water and is formulated with moisturizers, such as glycerin, urea, hyaluronic acid, and AHA, which are useful for moisturizing the skin and making the skin feel smoother. Usually toner is also enriched with plant extracts, antioxidants, and anti-aging, which can improve skin texture, brighten the skin, and even skin tone. Because of this ingredient, toner can be used for all skin types, but it is aimed more at normal, dry and sensitive skin.

How to use Astringent and Toner

In daily care, astringent or toner can be used once a day, either morning or evening. Astringent or toner is used after washing the face and before using a moisturizer. After making sure your face is clean and dry, you can use astringent or toner in the following ways:
  • Pour enough astringent or toner on a cotton swab.
  • Apply it evenly to the face by patting it on the surface of the facial skin.
  • Wait for it to dry, then you can use other skin treatments, such as acne medication, serum, eye cream, and sunscreen.
We recommend using astringent only on oily skin areas to prevent skin irritation from appearing on non-oily skin. Because astringents generally contain alcohol, you should avoid using it if your skin is irritated or dry. Well, now you already know what is the difference between astringent and toner, right? For those of you owners of dry and sensitive skin it is recommended not to use astringent, because it can make the skin become dry, irritated, peeling, and redness. In addition, people who have certain skin problems, such as eczema and rosacea, should also avoid using astringents. Use toner or moisturizer that is free of oil content or labeled "non-comedogenic". If the facial skin becomes reddish, feels hot or sore, and becomes irritated after using astringent or toner, stop using it immediately and consult a doctor.
